The report presents a thermal response test (TRT) conducted in a 350-meter-deep borehole at Mynämäki, Finland. The study utilized fiber optic cables to measure the temperature profile of the brine fluid within the borehole. The bedrock’s thermal conductivity was found to be 2.90 W/(m·K), typical for gneiss-type rock. The borehole’s thermal resistance was slightly lower using a 45 mm pipe (0.087 m·K/W) compared to other measurements. Simulations indicated that using a 45 mm pipe reduces the borehole’s overall thermal resistance due to the smaller groundwater volume. Further data from DTS measurements can refine local thermal resistance interpretations.

ENERGIES
The report examines the performance of different borehole heat exchanger configurations with a focus on the TurboCollector pipe design. Testing revealed that ribbed inner walls, like those of the TurboCollector, enhance turbulent flow even at lower flow rates, increasing heat extraction rates. Compared to a classic smooth 2U-loop D32 pipe, the 1U-loop D45 TurboCollector increases heat extraction by 6.5%, and the 2U-loop D32 ribbed pipe by 18.7%. These findings suggest that the TurboCollector design is advantageous in terms of both thermal efficiency and reduced pressure drops, making it ideal for turbulent flow conditions and optimizing geothermal energy extraction.

ACCIO
The report evaluates the performance of smooth energy collectors versus TurboCollector® with a ribbed interior. Testing showed that the TurboCollector® has a lower borehole thermal resistance (0.12 W/mK) compared to the smooth collector (0.145 W/mK), indicating more efficient energy transfer from the fluid to the bedrock. This enhanced heat transfer is advantageous for turbulent flow conditions, as it allows for greater energy output. However, no significant difference in pressure drop was observed between the two collector types during this specific test, suggesting similar hydraulic performance. Overall, the TurboCollector® offers better thermal performance, beneficial for turbulent flow systems.
